A celebration of love and creative inspiration takes place in the infamous, gaudy and glamorous Parisian nightclub, at the cusp of the 20th century. A young poet, who is plunged into the heady world of Moulin Rouge, begins a passionate affair with the club's most notorious and beautiful star.

Satine is a prostitute, and the poor writer Christian falls in love with her. However, it's apparently complicated being poor and in a relationship with a prostitute. A rich Duke throws a forest of money at Satine, while Christian gets all the action. The Duke gets jealous, and Satine dies (of tuberculosis)
